The Lakes Area possesses a vibrant artistic culture. Perhaps inspired by the natural beauty of the environment, numerous artists make the Lakes Area their home. Their exhibits are visible throughout the community, such as the impressive Art of the Lakes gallery in downtown Battle Lake, and at the renowned Phelps Mills Arts Festival each July. Painters, potters, carvers, craftsmen, musicians, and writers are nestled throughout our landscape adding diversity and charm to the community.

The arts culture is also expressed in various dramas, musicals, and guest performances in the area. This is expected to increase with the fine arts emphasis in School District #542. When the new school was built a few years ago, a contemporary theatrical auditorium was constructed – the Royal Auditorium. This elegant venue seats 450 and is the icon facility for artistic expression in the region.

A short commute provides annual concert series performing arts in Fergus Falls, Alexandria, and Wadena.

When it comes to the arts and recreational opportunities in the Lakes Area, the possibilities are unique as they are endless. Additional entertainment options include movie theaters, night life, mini golf, parades and festivals. Rodeos and other special events are hosted at Red Horse Ranch Arena, a 400x135 indoor heated arena near Fergus Falls.
